FedEx Surcharge Insights2 min read

Any additional fee that is charged for
an item for its weight, dimension, or care required during transit to
ensure the item is preserved in its best capacity is a shipping
surcharge.

With the heavily impacting dimensional
weight pricing, FedEx has also brought in surcharges on fuel.

Though fuel prices are constantly
fluctuating, the fact that the prices of fuel have been seeing some
good times of late, is not taken into consideration by major carriers
and FedEx and UPS.

When FedEx makes a delivery under its
FedEx Home Delivery, which is made on dates from Tuesday through
Friday, it includes a residential surcharge. FedEx Ground is used for
delivery to business addresses.

Based on the fuel prices at the end of
2014, FedEx Ground rates will be based on the U.S. average price of a
gallon of diesel and has all characteristics of elevating all the way
up to 3.5%. When it comes to FedEx Express rates, they are determined
on the average U.S. spot price for a gallon of jet fuel and will go
as high as 4%.

After assessing the residential and
fuel surcharges, a tally of the surcharges will be shown along with
the estimated cost, when a FedEx shipping label is printed.

A smart shipping app should give you
the platform to compare and analyse rates before picking out a label
type. Post 2015, package dimensions matter, so the packaging should
be succinct yet effective.

On FedEx Express shipments, related
fuel surcharge is added based on the net package rate and the
transportation-affiliated surcharges.

FedEx surcharges are applied for
shipments within the U.S. and from the U.S. to Peurto Rico. It is
charged on courier pick-up, delivery to residential address, delivery
reattempt, delivery to extended service areas, freight extended
service area pick-up, freight residential pick-up, freight Saturday
delivery, freight Saturday pick-up, oversized items, and FedEx
ExpressTag that enables return-on-call pick-up.

Regarding FedEx Express U.S. Export and
U.S. import shipments, FedEx adds surcharge toward broker routing
fee, courier pick-up, FedEx International Premium pick-up, and FedEx
International Premium residential delivery.

Surcharges under FedEx Ground shipments
are applicable for all on-call pick-ups, electronic call tags,
oversized and unauthorised oversized packages, and delivery to
residential addresses.

In today’s shipping circumstances,
surcharges are unavoidable. But there are other ways through which a
business can save money on shipping – by diligent packaging and
keeping a track on delivery dates. If the delivery is not made on
time, claims can be made under the money back guarantee.
